Bureau of the Fiscal Service

Bureau of the Fiscal Service

of the U.S. Treasury Department

We're a new Bureau of the U.S. Treasury Department formed from the consolidation of the Financial Management Service and the Bureau of the Public Debt. Our mission is to promote the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the U.S. government through exceptional accounting, financing, collections, payments, and shared services.

Our vision is to help transform financial management and delivery of shared services in the federal government. We'll provide exceptional services and collaborate with and help other government organizations raise the level of their performance.

We'll meet our goals by introducing a level of efficiency, transparency and accountability that positively affects the public perception of how government works.

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service will be a valued partner for agencies as they work to strengthen their own financial management or as they look for a quality service provider who can allow them to focus on their missions.

We are the Bureau of the Fiscal Service.
Lead, Transform, Deliver.

Financing the Debt

Why does the debt sometimes decrease?

The Public Debt Outstanding decreases when there are more redemptions of Treasury securities than there are issues.

How do you make a contribution to reduce the debt?

There are two ways for you to make a contribution to reduce the debt:

  • You can make a contribution online either by credit card, checking or savings account at Pay.gov

  • You can write a check payable to the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, and in the memo section, notate that it's a Gift to reduce the Debt Held by the Public. Mail your check to:

    Attn Dept G
    Bureau of the Fiscal Service
    P. O. Box 2188
    Parkersburg, WV 26106-2188
